RELEASE: Dave Min (CA-47) receives Democrats Serve’s endorsement
Highlighting his background as a frontline public service pro, the national organization plans to actively support Dave Min’s congressional bid in California’s 47th district.
Milford, Conn. (April 20, 2023) — Today, Democrats Serve, a national hybrid political action committee (PAC) aiming to help public service Democrats run for office and win, announced an endorsement of Dave Min’s congressional bid in California’s 47th District.
Brett Broesder, the PAC’s executive director, stated that Dave Min’s public service background, including serving as a business law professor at the University of California-Irvine, enforcement attorney at the Securities and Exchange Commission, and aide to Senator Chuck Schumer, makes him an excellent example of a Democrat running for office who can excel as a candidate and policymaker.
“Dave Min has a strong track record of public service and standing up for his community,” said Broesder. “From backing common-sense gun reforms to acting against domestic violence, State Senator Dave Min has a proven track record of doing what’s right for his community. Dave’s public service experience and people-first priorities stand out in the field. In Congress, he’ll continue fighting for California families. That’s why we couldn’t be prouder to back Dave in his congressional run.”
State Senator Dave Min asserted that he’s thrilled to receive Democrats Serve’s endorsement.
"I began my career as a public service pro, holding Wall Street accountable during the financial crisis and protecting families from foreclosure,” said Min. “In the State Senate, I have fought for bold and aggressive legislation to improve the lives of my constituents, challenging politics as usual. I'm honored to earn the support of Democrats Serve for my congressional run as they share in my commitment to protect our democracy, strengthen our economy, and beat back right-wing extremism."
A coastal Orange County seat, California’s 47th Congressional District, is currently represented by Katie Porter, who is running for U.S. Senate in 2024.
In 2020, Joe Biden won this district by 12 points; in 2022, Porter was endorsed by Democrats Serve and beat her Republican opponent 52-48%. Porter has endorsed Min for her seat.
Although Cook’s Political Report has classified the seat as Lean Democrat, Senior Editor David Wasserman notes that Republicans perform well down-ballot in this district, including Republican gubernatorial candidate Brian Dahle beating Governor Gavin Newsom 50.3-49.7%
Broesder asserts that Min, whose state senate seat covers more than 80 percent of the district, is well-positioned to win a competitive primary and general election.
“To win back the House, Democrats need to hold onto California’s 47th Congressional District,” said Broesder. “We’re committed to ensuring Dave Min has the resources and support necessary to win in the primary and general elections.”
