Democrats Serve endorses 37 new candidates running in competitive elections nationwide

Highlighting each candidate’s public service background, the organization plans to actively back newly endorsed candidates running in Senate, House, Gubernatorial, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, and State Auditor races nationwide.

Milford, Connecticut (October 25, 2022) — Today, Democrats Serve PAC — a new national political action committee (PAC) supporting Democrats running for office with public service backgrounds — is endorsing 37 new candidates running in competitive elections nationwide.

Brett Broesder, the PAC’s executive director, noted that all 37 candidates receiving an endorsement today have first-hand experience serving their communities in government.

“For frontline public service pros like those endorsed today, strengthening their communities isn’t just a job; it’s a way of life,” said Broesder. “Their experience as frontline workers gives them first-hand expertise in tackling the toughest challenges our communities face today. That’s why Democrats Serve – with the aim of making sure they have the support and resources that are necessary to win – is proud to officially endorse their candidacies.”

The 37 new candidates being endorsed by Democrats Serve today include:

Incumbent Senate Democrats:

  • Michael Bennet (CO-Sen): Former Superintendent of Denver Public Schools.

  • Richard Blumenthal (CT-Sen): Former prosecutor.

  • Patty Murray (WA-Sen): Former educator.

U.S. Senate Candidates:

  • Trudy Busch-Valentine (MO-Sen): Former nurse.

  • Tim Ryan (OH-Sen): Former congressional staffer.

Incumbent House Democrats

  • Ami Bera (CA-06): Former Chief Medical Officer for Sacramento County, CA.

  • Kathy Castor (FL-14): Former Florida Department of Community Affairs staff attorney.

  • Joe Courtney (CT-02): Former public defender.

  • Rosa DeLauro (CT-03): Former congressional staffer.

  • Lloyd Doggett (TX-37): Former Justice for the Texas Supreme Court.

  • Anna Eshoo (CA-16):  Former Chief of Staff to pro-tempore Leo McCarthy of the California State Assembly.

  • Jared Golden (ME-02): Former congressional staffer.

  • Jim Himes (CT-04): Former Housing Authority Commissioner in Greenwich, CT.

  • Hank Johson (GA-04): Former magistrate judge.

  • Raul Ruiz (CA-25): Former associate dean at the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine.

  • Eric Swalwell (CA-14): Former prosecutor in the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.

  • Dina Titus (NV-01): Professor at the University of Nevada.

U.S. House Candidates:

  • Tim Alexander (NJ-02): Former police captain.

  • Don Davis (NC-01): Former college professor.

  • Adam Gray (CA-13): Former legislative aide for the California Legislature.

  • Jeanne Hendricks (MN-06): Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.

  • Jonathan Jackson (IL-01): Former college professor.

  • Eric Lynn (FL-13): Former senior advisor to the U.S. Department of Defense.

  • Asif Mahmood (CA-40): Formerly physician at the University of Kentucky.

  • Carl Marlinga (MI-10): Former prosecutor.

  • Brad Pfaff (WI-03): Former congressional aide.

Incumbent Governors

  • Kathy Hochul (NY-Gov): Former deputy Erie County Clerk.

  • Janet Mills (ME-Gov): Former assistant attorney general.

  • Gretchen Whitmer (MI-Gov): Former prosecutor.

Gubernatorial Candidates:

  • Joy Hofmeister (OK-Gov): Former state superintendent of public instruction.

  • Maura Healey (MA-Gov): Former special assistant district attorney in Middlesex County and prosecutor in the Massachusetts Office of Attorney General.

  • Josh Shapiro (PA-Gov): Former Capitol Hill staffer.

  • Jamie Smith (SD-Gov): Former educator.

Attorney General Candidate:

  • Charity Clark (VT-AG): Former chief of staff to the Vermont attorney general.

Incumbent Secretary of State:

  • Steve Simon (MN-SOS): Former assistant attorney general.

Lieutenant Governor Candidate:

  • Kim Driscoll (MA-LG): Former city manager and deputy city manager for Salem, MA.

State Auditor Candidate:

  • Alan Green (MO-SA): Former police officer.

Broesder also said that the group is making a concerted effort to recruit diverse candidates with public safety and justice system experience.
