Democrats Serve launches new ad supporting Gabe Amo in RI-01
Planned program includes a mix of direct mail, digital ads, and cable television
Milford, Conn. (July 18, 2023) — Today, Democrats Serve — a national group supporting Democrats with public service backgrounds — announced a planned independent expenditure effort in support Gabe Amo’s candidacy in Rhode Island’s 1st Congressional District.
The planned six-figure effort that the group is actively raising for includes:
Direct mail: Several pieces to likely special election Democratic Primary voters;
Digital advertising: Programmatic digital and social media ads, including video, delivering hundreds of thousands of impressions to likely special election Democratic primary voters; and
Cable TV: Delivering to special election Democratic primary voters in the Providence market.
Brett Broesder, the organization’s founding executive director, noted that Amo — who has an extensive public service background that includes working as a senior aide to Presidents Obama, Biden, and then-Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo — has demonstrated the skills and values that will make him excel as a candidate and policymaker.
“Gabe Amo exemplifies public service,” said Broesder. “Gabe’s background gives him a unique perspective and expertise on the frontlines of policy delivery. He stands out in this Democratic primary and will deliver results for Ocean Staters in the nation’s capital. We’re proud to support Gabe.”
Background on the race: Congressman David Cicilline announced in February that he would retire to lead a nonprofit, the Rhode Island Foundation, resulting in a special primary election that will take place on September 5, 2023. The special general election takes place on November 7, 2023.
Rhode Island’s 1st Congressional District consists mainly of the eastern part of the smallest state in the country, including Pawtucket, Newport, and parts of Providence. It’s a heavily Democratic district where President Biden won nearly 30 points in 2020 (Biden 63.5% - Trump 34.5%).
In 2022, Democrats Serve endorsed and supported several Ocean State-based candidates, including Seth Magaziner for Congress, Val Lawson for State Senate, Joe Shekarchi for State Representative, and Xaykham “Xay” Khamsyvoravong for Newport.
The organization’s overall national effort consists of recruiting, training, and supporting Democrats with backgrounds serving communities in government, including educators, police officers, firefighters, first responders, social workers, judges, prosecutors, public defenders, public health nurses, and more.
