RELEASE: Democrats Serve PAC endorses seven new candidates in competitive House and Senate races

Highlighting their public service backgrounds, the national organization plans to actively support today’s endorsees – Alsobrooks (MD-Sen), Cisneros (CA-31), Gray (CA-13), Morse (CA-03), Ratevosian (CA-30), Blunt Rochester (DE-Sen), and Salas (CA-22) – in their 2024 elections.

Milford, Conn. (September 18, 2023) – Today, Democrats Serve – a national organization supporting Democrats with public service backgrounds – announced the endorsement of 7 new candidates in competitive House and Senate in 2024.

Brett Broesder, the organization’s founder and executive director, noted that all nine candidates receiving an endorsement today have first-hand experience as public service professionals.

“For frontline public service pros, strengthening their communities isn’t just a job; it’s a way of life,” said Broesder. “That’s why Democrats Serve is proud to support these seven public service Democrats running in competitive races. We plan to ensure they have the support and resources necessary to win.”

The seven new candidates being endorsed today include:

  • Angela Alsobrooks (MD-Sen): Former Assistant State’s Attorney in Prince George’s County, MD.

  • Gil Cisneros (CA-31): Former U.S. Department of Defense Undersecretary and U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander.

  • Adam Gray (CA-13): Former legislative director at the California State Senate, and a former aide to California State Senator Ron Calderon and State Assemblyman Dennis Cardoza.

  • Jessica Morse (CA-03): Former Deputy Secretary for Forest and Wildland Resilience at the California Natural Resources Agency, a Program Analyst for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and a U.S. Department of State Coordinator.

  • Rudy Salas (CA-22): Former District Director for California State Senator Dean Florez and staffer at the Office of Vice President Al Gore.

These new endorsements come on the heels of Rhode Island’s 1st Congressional District special election, where Democrats Serve was the first group to endorse Gabe Amo, the Democratic Primary winner, and the only organization to run independent expenditure programming supporting his candidacy (including a mix of cable TV, direct mail, and digital).

For the 2024 midterms, the organization has made endorsements nationwide, including: Incumbent House Democrats: Yadira Caraveo (CO-03), Jasmine Crockett (TX-30), Val Foushee (NC-04), and Abigail Spanberger (VA-07); and U.S. House Candidates: Gabe Amo (RI-01), Dave Min (CA-47), Josh Riley (NY-19), Will Rollins (CA-41), and Tony Vargas (NE-02).

Democrats Serve’s overall national effort consists of recruiting, training, and supporting Democrats with backgrounds serving communities in government, including educators, police officers, firefighters, first responders, social workers, judges, prosecutors, public defenders, public health nurses, and more.
