RELEASE: Democrats Serve PAC Endorses Mike Rogers for Congress (MD-03)

National organization plans to support U.S. House Candidate Mike Rogers actively, highlighting his background as a veteran

Washington, DC (January 5, 2024) — Today, Democrats Serve, a national organization committed to supporting public service Democrats, announced its endorsement of Mike Rogers in Maryland's 3rd Congressional District. His background as a military veteran and an elected member of Maryland's House of Delegates makes him an exemplary candidate who can bring experience and leadership to Congress.

Brett Broesder, the PAC's executive director, said Rogers' 29 years of service in the United States Army and his dedication to his community in the state legislature are just a few reasons why he is the right person to represent Maryland families, workers, and veterans in Congress.

"Public service isn't just a job for Mike Rogers; it's his way of life," said Broesder.

Rogers expressed his gratitude for receiving Democrats Serve's endorsement, and he aims to continue his work of serving the people of Maryland's 3rd Congressional District.

"I'm honored to receive this endorsement because I've dedicated my life to service," said Rogers. "In Congress, I'll keep serving our country and community by working to lower healthcare costs, create jobs and economic security, and stand up for our veterans by increasing VA funding and ensuring no one who has served this country ever goes hungry or homeless."

The area, which encompasses all of Howard County and some parts of Anne Arundel and Carroll Counties, has a solid Democratic voter base and a substantial military population due to the presence of Fort Meade—the US Army's second-largest installation by population and the state's largest employer with over 64,000 jobs—and the US Naval Academy.

The 2024 primary field to fill the seat, left open after Congressman John Sarbanes's decision not to run for re-election, includes several potentially viable candidates. Mike Rogers enters the race with significant geographic, demographic, and political advantages and is building a strong, focused Democratic campaign with a compelling message to build a winning coalition.

For the 2024 midterms, Democrats Serve has made several endorsements nationwide, including: U.S. Senate Candidates: Angela Alsobrooks (MD-Sen) and Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE-Sen); Incumbent House Democrats: Yadira Caraveo (CO-03), Jasmine Crockett (TX-30), Val Foushee (NC-04); U.S. House Candidates: Gil Cisneros (CA-31), Adam Gray (CA-13), Dave Min (CA-47), Jessica Morse (CA-03), Jirair Ratevosian (CA-30), Josh Riley (NY-19), Will Rollins (CA-41), Rudy Salas (CA-22), Derek Tran (CA-45), and Tony Vargas (NE-02).

Democrats Serve’s overall national effort consists of recruiting, training, and supporting Democrats with backgrounds serving communities in government, including educators, police officers, firefighters, veterans, first responders, social workers, judges, prosecutors, public defenders, nurses, and more.
