Democrats Serve endorses nine new candidates nationwide
Highlighting each candidate’s public service background, the organization plans to actively back Kunce (MO-SEN), Abrams (GA-GOV), Jones (CA-03), Mizeur (MD-01), Landsman (OH-01), Caraveo (CO-08), Yanez (MI-10), Ayala (FL-AG), and Wizard (CA AD-30)
Milford, Connecticut (April 1, 2022) — Today, Democrats Serve PAC — a new national political action committee (PAC) supporting Democrats running for office with public service backgrounds — is endorsing nine candidates running in competitive elections nationwide.
Brett Broesder, the PAC’s executive director, noted that all nine candidates receiving an endorsement today have first-hand experience serving their communities in government.
“For frontline public service pros like those endorsed today, strengthening their communities isn’t just a job; it’s a way of life,” said Broesder. “Their experience as frontline workers provides them with first-hand expertise in tackling the toughest challenges our communities face today. That’s why Democrats Serve – with the aim of making sure they have the support and resources that are necessary to win re-election – is proud to officially endorse their candidacies.”
The nine candidates being endorsed by Democrats Serve today include:
Lucas Kunce (MO-SEN): Prosecutor and Defense Attorney (United States Marine Corps), Joint Staff at the Pentagon, and Deputy General Counsel for the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) at the Department of Defense (DOD).
Stacey Abrams (GA-GOV): Deputy city attorney in Atlanta, GA.
Aramis Ayala (FL-AG): Former prosecutor, public defender, and Florida’s first Black state attorney.
Kermit Jones (CA-03): Former Federal Drug Administration (FDA) regulatory attorney and Navy flight surgeon.
Heather Mizeur (MD-01): Policy Staffer for several members of Congress, including Representative Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky (D-PA) and Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX).
Greg Landsman (OH-01): Educator.
Yadira Caraveo (CO-08): Former Pediatric Resident at the University of New Mexico.
Henry Yanez (MI-10): Former firefighter.
Jon Wizard (CA AD-30): Former fIrefighter, EMT, San Benito County deputy sheriff, and Planning Commissioner for Monterey County.
For the 2022 midterms, the PAC has made endorsements nationwide in competitive elections, including: U.S. Senate Candidates Cheri Beasley (NC), Val Demings (FL), and Sarah Godlewski (WI); U.S. House Candidates Christina Bohannan (IA-01), Matt Castelli (NY-21), Jasmine Crockett (TX-30), Val Foushee (NC-06), Kara Hahn (NY-1), Jonathan Logemann (IL-17), Seth Magaziner (RI-02), Ruben Ramirez (TX-15), Karin Norington-Reaves (IL-01), and Tony Vargas (NE-2); Incumbent House Democrats Carolyn Bourdeaux (GA-07), Jahana Hayes (CT-05), Andy Kim (NJ-03), Tom Malinowski (NJ-07), Tom O'Halleran (AZ-01), Katie Porter (CA-45), Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11), Abigail Spanberger (VA-07), Elissa Slotkin (MI-08), Lauren Underwood (IL-14), and Susan Wild (PA-07); and Gubernatorial Candidate Katie Hobbs (AZ).
Broesder also said that the group is making a concerted effort to recruit diverse candidates with public safety and justice system experience.
Democrats Serve’s overall national effort consists of recruiting, training, and supporting Democrats with backgrounds serving communities in government — at the federal, state, and local levels — including teachers, police officers, firefighters, first responders, social workers, judges, prosecutors, public defenders, public health nurses, and more.
