RELEASE: Democrats Serve launches new pro-Harris ad highlighting Taylor Swift’s endorsement
New 30-second, 15-second, and 6-second spots highlight Kamala Harris receiving Taylor Swift’s endorsement, planning to run the ad via social media and streaming channels in crucial battleground states.
Washington, DC (Update: October 24, 2024) — Today, Democrats Serve, a national organization supporting Democratic candidates with public service backgrounds, has placed an initial digital ad buy in battleground states for its new pro-Kamala Harris independent expenditure (IE) video ad. The ad encourages young, newly registered Democrats—including those motivated by Taylor Swift’s endorsement—to cast their ballots for Harris by Tuesday, November 5th.
The group is actively raising to fund its planned six-figure ad buy, which will focus on social media and streaming channels in crucial battleground states—Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nebraska (NE-02), Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin—targeting newly registered 18–29-year-old voters.
“For Kamala Harris, public service isn’t just a job; it’s a way of life,” said Brett Broesder, the founder and executive director at Democrats Serve. “That’s why we’re proud to support her candidacy while helping ensure Donald Trump and the White House never get back together.”
Kamala Harris, a former prosecutor, and Tim Walz, a retired teacher and coach, fit Democrats Serve’s criteria for support as Democrats with public service professional backgrounds.
Harris has received several endorsements from a wide range of people nationwide, including celebrities like Taylor Swift, who announced on Instagram that she plans to vote for the Harris-Walz ticket on September 10, 2024.
After Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris, 405,999 people visited vote.gov in 24 hours, compared to an average of 30,000 visits per day the week before, as reported by CBS News. A few days later, on National Voter Registration Day, over 279,000 new voters registered, with more than eight out of ten under age 35, according to USA Today.
According to the New York Times, most young people still do not vote. However, the Pew Research Center reports that young adults aged 18 to 29 who actively engage with political content are 25 percent more likely to vote than those who do not.
That’s why Democrats Serve plans to reach these newly registered Democratic Swifties where they are—online—via platforms like social media, news sites, and streaming channels.
“No Democrat can afford to sit this election out—especially those in key battleground states where every vote for Harris means we’re one step closer to protecting democracy,” said Broesder. “That’s why at Democrats Serve, we’re proud to do our part to help the Harris-Walz ticket.”
Democrats Serve, founded in the spring of 2021, has a strong track record of success nationwide. The group has endorsed candidates in nearly every state and has run over a dozen IEs at the federal, state, and local levels. Success at the federal level includes IE efforts supporting Josh Riley (NY-19) in his first Democratic primary victory (2022), Gabe Amo (RI-01) in his primary and general election wins (2023), and Shomari Figures (AL-02) in his Democratic primary runoff victory earlier this year.
