Democrats Serve Endorses Ramirez (TX-15)
Highlighting his background as a frontline public service pro, new national organization plans to actively support Ruben Ramirez in Texas’ 15th congressional district.
Milford, Conn. (December 6, 2021) – Today, Democrats Serve — a new national hybrid political action committee (PAC) that supports Democrats running for office with public service backgrounds — is endorsing Ruben Ramirez in his congressional bid for Texas’ new and open 15th Congressional District.
Brett Broesder, the PAC’s executive director, noted that Ruben Ramirez — a former prosecutor, deputy city attorney, teacher, and veteran — is an excellent example of a Democrat running for office, with frontline public service experience, who can excel as a candidate and a policymaker.
“Ruben Ramirez’s experience as a frontline public service pro provides him with first-hand expertise in tackling the toughest challenges our communities face today,” said Broesder. “For Ruben Ramirez, standing up for Texas families isn’t just a job; it’s a way of life. That’s why at Democrats Serve — with an aim of helping to ensure he has the support and resources necessary to win — we’re proud to officially endorse his candidacy.”
Ruben Ramirez, in response to receiving the endorsement, said that he’ll keep service at his core as a congressman.
"I am so proud and honored to have earned the endorsement of Democrats Serve,” said Ramirez. “As a veteran and former educator, service is core to who I am. In Congress, I'll fight tirelessly for fully-funding our schools, ensuring our teachers receive the compensation they deserve, and all our children have access to safe quality in-person education no matter what zip code they're born in. Education is the key that broke the bonds of generational poverty for me and it is a key that I look to continue to pass on to others."
Democrats Serve works to support public service candidates, who often lack access to the wealthy donor networks that non-working class candidates do.
After launching in May, the organization endorsed 28 candidates nationwide who were running for state and local office in 2021. Every single candidate endorsed by the group won their respective elections.
For the 2022 midterms, the PAC has made endorsements nationwide in competitive elections, including: U.S. Senate Candidates Val Demings (FL), Cheri Beasley (NC); U.S. House Candidates Aramis Ayala (FL-10), Matt Castelli (NY-21), Tony Vargas (NE-2); Incumbent House Democrats Carolyn Bourdeaux (GA-07), Lauren Underwood (IL-14), Elissa Slotkin (MI-08), Andy Kim (NJ-03), Tom Malinowski (NJ-07), Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11), Susan Wild (PA-07), Abigail Spanberger (VA-07), Jahana Hayes (CT-05), Tom O'Halleran (AZ-01), Katie Porter (CA-45); and Gubernatorial Candidate Katie Hobbs (AZ).
Broesder also said that the group is making a concerted effort to recruit diverse candidates with public safety and justice system experience.
“Republicans in Washington are turning their backs on law enforcement by opposing bipartisan investigations into what role politics played in allowing insurrectionists to kill a Capitol Police officer,” said Broesder. “Republicans have made their priorities clear: appeasing right-wing extremists trumps law and order. America deserves better. That’s why electing Democrats like Ruben Ramirez — who know first-hand what it means to serve their communities in government — is critical to safeguarding our democracy.”
Democrats Serve’s overall national effort consists of recruiting, training, and supporting Democrats with backgrounds serving communities in government — at the federal, state, and local levels — including teachers, police officers, firefighters, first responders, social workers, judges, prosecutors, public defenders, public health nurses, and more.
