Democrats Serve PAC Endorses Karin Norington-Reaves for Congress (IL-01)

Highlighting her background as a frontline public service pro, new national organization plans to actively support Karin Norington-Reaves in her congressional bid.

Milford, Conn. (March 11, 2022) — Democrats Serve — a national hybrid political action committee (PAC) that supports Democrats running for office with public service backgrounds — is endorsing Karin Norington-Reaves in her congressional bid.

Brett Broesder, the PAC’s executive director, noted that Karin Norington-Reaves — a former public school teacher, staff attorney at the Maryland Attorney General's Office, Trial Attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice, consumer protection advocate, and litigator with the Citizens Utility Board, and head of workforce development in Chicago and Cook County — is an excellent example of a Democrat running for office with frontline public service experience who can excel as a candidate and a policymaker.

“Karin Norington-Reaves knows public service,” said Broesder. “We’re thrilled to support her candidacy. She knows that too many Illinois families are struggling. They need a strong advocate in our nation’s capital. As an experienced frontline public service pro, Karin is well-equipped to successfully fight for Illinois families while tackling the toughest challenges facing our country.”

Karin Norington-Reaves notes that she’s proud to receive Democrats Serve’s endorsement.

"I’m proud to receive the support of Democrats Serve, and am humbled by their recognition of my lifetime of public service,” said Karin Norington-Reaves. “I’ve dedicated my career to addressing the systemic issues that have destabilized our communities and to creating change as an educator, attorney, advocate, and workforce development leader. As Congresswoman, I will continue fighting for working families and striving to improve economic opportunity for all.”

Democrats Serve works to support public service candidates, many of whom lack access to national donor networks.

Since launching in May 2021, of the 29 endorsed candidates who have appeared on a ballot so far, every single one has won their election.

For the 2022 midterms, the PAC has made endorsements nationwide in competitive elections, including: U.S. Senate Candidates Cheri Beasley (NC), Val Demings (FL), and Sarah Godlewski (WI); U.S. House Candidates Christina Bohannan (IA-01), Matt Castelli (NY-21), Jasmine Crockett (TX-30), Val Foushee (NC-06), Kara Hahn (NY-1), Jonathan Logemann (IL-17), Seth Magaziner (RI-02), Ruben Ramirez (TX-15), and Tony Vargas (NE-2); Incumbent House Democrats Carolyn Bourdeaux (GA-07), Jahana Hayes (CT-05), Andy Kim (NJ-03), Tom Malinowski (NJ-07), Tom O'Halleran (AZ-01), Katie Porter (CA-45), Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11), Abigail Spanberger (VA-07), Elissa Slotkin (MI-08), Lauren Underwood (IL-14), and Susan Wild (PA-07); Gubernatorial Candidate Katie Hobbs (AZ); and Attorney General Candidate Aramis Ayala (FL).

Broesder also said that the group is making a concerted effort to recruit diverse candidates with public safety and justice system experience.

Democrats Serve’s overall national effort consists of recruiting, training, and supporting Democrats with backgrounds serving communities in government — at the federal, state, and local levels — including teachers, police officers, firefighters, first responders, social workers, judges, prosecutors, public defenders, public health nurses, and more.
